To use a healthy hair shampoo effectively, start by thoroughly wetting your hair with warm water to help open up the hair cuticles and loosen dirt and oil. Squeeze a small amount of shampoo—usually about a quarter-sized amount—into your palms and rub them together to activate the formula. Apply the shampoo mainly to your scalp and roots, where oil and buildup tend to accumulate, and gently massage it in using your fingertips in circular motions for about 30 to 60 seconds. Avoid using your nails, as this can irritate the scalp. As you rinse the shampoo out, let the lather naturally run through the lengths and ends of your hair without scrubbing them, to prevent dryness or damage. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm or cool water to help seal the hair cuticle and add shine. If your hair is particularly oily or has heavy product buildup, you can repeat the shampooing process.
